Today we released version 4.1 of our browser management suite, with updated versions of Browsium Proton, Ion, and Catalyst. These three modules comprise the first-ever end-to-end browser management suite, designed to address the hidden risks inherent in enterprise web application environments.

What’s new in version 4.1

Version 4.1 of our browser management suite is another big step forward for this best-in-market solution to help you discover, plan, and act to manage the modern browser-based landscape. In this release, special emphasis has been placed on detecting and reporting Java and ActiveX usage – two of enterprise IT’s most vulnerable areas today. You’ll also experience our new performance analytics, helping you monitor the health of your enterprise web applications. Highlights in this release include:

Comprehensive Java detection and reporting

  • New suite of dedicated Java usage reports, with full export capabilities, simplifies access to Java usage information and provides the insights needed to proactively manage Java versions and security organization-wide.
  • New detection and reporting for Java applications running outside of the web browser provides a complete view of Java usage throughout the organization.

Comprehensive ActiveX detection and reporting

  • Simplifies access to ActiveX dependency and security information, by version and by web application, with a new suite of dedicated ActiveX usage reports.
  • New reporting on unused ActiveX controls identifies unnecessary attack surfaces to aid in defense-in-depth security mitigation.

New web browser and web application performance analytics

  • Collects and reports page fetch and load times for every web application, the first of many planned features to provide comprehensive client-side performance analytics for enterprise web applications.

Additional enhancements to existing Proton, Ion, and Catalyst features

  • Includes enhancements to privacy mode, rule management, robustness, and performance.

More details about these releases can be found in the release notes for each module linked to the table at the bottom of this post.

Why a browser management suite?

Today, enterprises rely on web applications for nearly every business task, yet they lack the tools to manage this browser-based end user workspace. Existing management solutions are designed around the old installed, executable application. Browser-based applications are very different, with applications compiled at runtime and no clear application boundaries. A new management paradigm is required for browser-based applications.

Managing the browser is more than Group Policy settings and controlling Security Zones. Your organization needs a complete browser management solution that gives you visibility, knowledge, and granular control of this mission-critical application platform. Our browser management suite gives you a new management toolset, so you can take command of your modern IT workspace to increase security and save money.
