Today we released version 4.3 of our browser management suite, with updated versions of Browsium Proton, Ion, and Catalyst. Together they deliver comprehensive IT operations management software that fills the gap left behind by your desktop and network management tools.
Version 4.3 of our suite brings the management of cloud services to the forefront. Just as your workforce once turned from enterprise desktop applications to intranet hosted web applications to improve their agility and productivity, they are now turning to cloud hosted web applications and enterprise SaaS offerings. This activity comes with its own set of IT challenges – not the least of which is understanding the proliferation of these applications – and this can have significant repercussions for your IT team in terms of support, license cost containment, information disclosure, and compliance. Because these cloud services are so easy to obtain independently (known as “shadow IT”), these issues are rapidly increasing.
The unique cloud service detection and reporting features in Proton 4.3 are designed to help you understand shadow IT usage by reporting user logins, native cloud client accounts, and file storage usage, in the following ways:
User logins to web applications – detects and reports SaaS account usage from select web applications enabling you to rationalize and optimize SaaS licensing. (see screenshot)
Native cloud client account detection – detects native Windows client applications (e.g. Dropbox, Slack, Box, GoToMeeting) to track compliance and discover license optimization opportunities. (see screenshot)
Cloud file storage usage (e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive) – detects and reports shadow IT and enables IT to preempt inadvertent information disclosure violations. Specific analytics include:
