Browsium v4.9.1 Available Now!

A new version of our software has been released, Browsium v4.9.1. Spoiler alert: It includes a default mitigation for log4j vulnerabilities and 3rd party applets for Java based profiles set in Ion.

Again, Browsium software has never shipped with the log4j library and therefore Browsium software is not exposed to the vulnerability.

Upgrades are at no charge for anyone with a current M&S agreement in place. Please contact us at [email protected] for specific customized recommendations, download links, etc.

What’s new in 4.9.1

  • • Modified default settings for Java based Profiles to include default mitigation for log4j vulnerabilities in customer and 3rd party applets and JLNP-based applications in Ion.

Note: Log4j versions released in the last 5 years – 2.10 – 2.14.1 are covered by default settings. v2.0 (only released in beta), through 2.9.1 are not.

  • • Fixed an issue where, if about:newsfeed is set as IE’s homepage on a machine where both Browsium Ion and Proton are active, the URL that about:newsfeed resolves to may report as being attached to an Ion profile even though it isn’t.
  • • Improved project load performance in the Edge extension for Ion projects.
  • • Fixed an issue where Ion projects may not properly get loaded by the Edge extension.
Spoiler alert: It includes a default mitigation for log4j vulnerabilities in customer and 3rd party applets for Java based profiles set in Ion.
Not to be outdone, BCMS (Our License Server) has added SAML 2.0 Single Sign-On (SSO) support, which is pretty nifty in its own right.

What’s new in BCMS for 4.9.1

    1. • Added SAML 2.0 Single Sign-On (SSO) support to the Browsium Client Management System. o Currently supported identity providers are Azure AD and Okta.
    2. o Contact Browsium Support for guidance on how to properly configure your BCMS deployment for SSO.
    3. • Added ability to disable local account creation in BCMS if desired.

As it was with v4.9, BCMS now requires SQL Server or SQL Express 2017 or later. As always, BCMS must be updated before the Client or Manager(s).

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you require any assistance upgrading – especially if you are upgrading from v4.4 or earlier (no BCMS requirement)

Thank you once again for your support and let us know if you have any suggestions for future Newsletter topics.
